The £10million Heart of Hawick project was designed to contribute to the social, cultural and economic regeneration of the town of Hawick and its wider borders. It was funded principally by the Scottish Borders Council, European Union, Heritage Lottery Funding and Scottish Arts Council.

The project’s principal aims involved the transformation of two previously empty shell buildings: the Tower Mill, a former weaving mill, now home to a new cinema and café and the Heritage Hub, the old function suite and cinema, now home to the Scottish Borders Archive and Local History centre.

The project also created a civic space for markets and events, a foot/cycle bridge over the River Teviot as well as renovating the Drumlanrig’s Tower and the town centre.
