West Fife Enterprise was set up in the 1980s to help overcome financial and social exclusion barriers for those affected by the demise of coalmining. Unfortunately, issues of structural isolation continue to create serious problems for people at the margins of the labour market in the area and so the Enterprises’ work continues to be relevant today. It led to the creation of the Forthview Learning Centre which has brought high quality learning infrastructure into the heart of the community.
Many of their clients are often described as the hardest to reach groups such as the unemployed, economically inactive and young people not in work or education.
The West Fife Enterprise also undertakes extensive networking with over 200 Fife companies which informs and shapes the vocational training they provide. This means they not only help those outside the labour market gain employable skills, but also help local employers find the workforce they require.
West Fife has received both ESF (£1,835,978) and ERDF (£186,645) funding from the EU for various projects over the last decade.
