Tick Tock

Start Date : September 2004
Location : South East
EU Investment : £ 1.7 million

The Tick Tock Partnership works with employers in the South East to recruit and retain older workers, improve older people’s control over their working lives and increase social capital through volunteering.

In the 1990s, older workers were excluded from the workplace through redundancy and early retirement packages.  The rationale behind the project came with a government initiative to encourage older people to continue working given the falling birth rate and increasing life expectancy and to help address the serious labour shortages in the South East.

By 2007, the Tick Tock project had helped 368 people back into employment, 146 into voluntary work and 705 people to gain access to lifelong learning.
